When I introduce our company Local Bigwig to others, many times I get asked “What does the company’s name mean?”
While ‘Local Bigwig’ may sound like the product of a random naming convention or some funky rhyme, I can assure you that a lot of thought and care went into creating our company’s name.
The ‘wig’ in ‘Bigwig’ is short for ‘wigwam’, the dwellings of the original locals of New York City – the Lenapes. By referring to big wigwams in our company’s name, we convey that our site is about homes, the foundation for a comfortable and genuine local experience.
Since our company started in New York City, there was no better inspiration than the original locals - the Lenapes. ”Lenape” means “the people.” One of the main goals with our site is to continuously feature the amazing homeowners and travelers that comprise our community. Our preoccupation with hospitality is due to our emphasis on friendship and community.
We were tired of hearing horror stories about friends being scammed when finding an extended stay furnished apartment in New York City. We wanted to do something about it and we strongly feel that our team has what it takes to make this process as easy, transparent and as fair as possible.
As implied in the name Local Bigwig, we are dedicated to helping travelers find the right furnished home rental for their needs, and equally focused on assisting homeowners find respectful guests for their place. We understand both parties involved and we encourage them to get to know each other in our community.
